YOUTH Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training minister, Tinoda Machakaire, yesterday announced thirteen of the 15 member Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) board to facilitate youth empowerment.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Machakaire said the ZYC was an important arm of the government which ensured youth participation in national processes.

The announcement was made in terms of some sections of the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act.

Lawyer Rutendo Mugwagwa chairs the board that includes members from various professional backgrounds with the youngest aged 21.
Other members of the ZYC board include Hazel Mandaza, Unathi Nyoni, Macintosh Manonose, Victor Mupunga, Acknowledge Mawere, Blessing Ndlovu, Thubelihle Nyoni, Talent Kadaira, Munyaradzi Chauruka, Thabani Shonhai, Yolanda Mungwari and Tinashe Ngirande
“The remaining two members shall be females of which one of whom shall be from Mashonaland West Province,” Machakaire said.
“The announcement will be made in due course.”

He said the board would also undertake projects designed to create employment for young people.

“This Board will enhance our efforts in promoting youth participation, economic empowerment and leadership development across the nation,” he said.
The new board replaces the one appointed in 2021 whose tenure had expired.

The ZYC is a corporate body, established by an Act of Parliament, the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act Chapter 25:19, as amended in 1997.
ZYC is the vehicle of linkage between government and the responsible ministry.

In terms of this Act, one of the institution’s key mandates is to advise Government on the needs of youth.
