A verbal sparring match unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) between Advocate Kucaca Ivumile Phulu, representing Sengezo Tshabangu, the Interim Secretary General of the main faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), and Advocate Thabani Mpofu, a member of the smaller CCC faction. The clash followed the successful legal representation by Phulu and his colleagues in recalling former Members of Parliament who had defected to the smaller CCC faction, ultimately leading to a by-election.
The exchange began when Advocate Phulu took to social media to express his satisfaction with the legal team’s performance, stating, “This team has handled a flood of litigation by almost 20 different lawyers and their support staff. We have discharged the call of being Mr. Tshabangu’s lawyers of choice with flying colours.”
However, Advocate Mpofu swiftly fired back, questioning the effectiveness of Phulu’s legal maneuvers. “What flying colours? Do you want us to share your heads? You call getting an order at midnight in effective default, flying? What drug are you on Phulu?” Mpofu countered, injecting a note of skepticism into the celebration.
Unfazed by Mpofu’s critique, Phulu responded provocatively, saying, “Share the heads.” The exchange escalated further when Mpofu retorted, “Foolishness and bravery have intersected. On your sorry and empty head be your blood,” implying a level of recklessness in Phulu’s legal strategy.
The heated exchange did not end there, as it took a personal turn when Advocate Mpofu was accused of being a cowardly lawyer who failed to represent the recalled MPs from his own CCC faction. Despite his reputation as a top lawyer closely associated with CCC President Nelson Chamisa, Mpofu faced criticism for allegedly abandoning fellow party members in their legal battles.
As the digital clash between the two advocates played out for the public eye, it remains to be seen how these internal conflicts within the CCC will impact the party’s unity and future legal endeavors.
